I want to start off by saying I have been head over heals for this little cafe for a long time! Back before the birth of my first son, my wife and I used to go to Carl’s Cafe at least once a week. It kind of became our little spot. You can’t beat the comfort of a good hot meal. I headed in there again the other day and I was not disappointed. This place just rocks!

This cozy little cafe is a classic in the Cottonwood Heights area. It is only open for breakfast and lunch. You can generally expect a wait on Saturday mornings. There are only ten tables in the place and generally a steady flow of regulars in and out, but it is well worth the wait. At ski season it is a favorite stop before heading up Big Cottonwood canyon. This place is a local fave for their breakfast. They are known and loved for their omelets and french toast at lunch and several awesome sandwiches at lunch time.

Carl's Cafe omlet

Ham and cheese omelet and hash browns.

My wife ordered a ham and cheese omelet and hash browns which is just a plate full of goodness! This fluffy omelet is full of ooey gooey cheese and they sure don’t hold back on the ham. The hash browns are just like I like them, made with plenty of butter and love.  It also included her choice of toast or a scone, but you can see that it had to go on a different plate because this one was already too full of this wonderful mouthful!

The thick sliced bacon is not to miss either. This is almost like eating strips of  ham steak! It was a good smokey flavor and sure to satisfy any bacon lover.

Carl's Cafe reuben sandwich

Reuben sandwich and french fries.

I am a sucker for a good grilled sandwich. I got the Reuben and french fries. A grilled rye bread stacked high with corned beef and wonderful crisp sauerkraut. Wowza that was a good sammy! The fries are a good crisp salty wonderland complete with fry sauce (What else would you expect in a Utah classic?).

Oh and did I mention, my favorite way to finish a meal off here is with a hot scone smothered in honey butter! These big, hot, fluffy scones are sure to fill in any empty spots you might have in your tummy.

I will continue to visit this great little corner of the cafe world for a long time. The service is always friendly and more than happy to see you when you return. You can always be sure the food is hot and cooked right when you order it. You get a great plate of chow for a really good price.
